MARKEYE WILSON

Mark Wilson has been an inspiration to me as an artist and a friend.  I refer to him as “The Markeye”, because to me he is really two beings in one – a Mark & a Hawkeye.

Since 2006, Mark has been a great resource for me as a UI Athletics Hall of Fame & Museum Ambassador and Hawkeye Historian.  Mark graciously opened up his home and personal archives of pictures, newspaper clippings, school papers, videos, scrapbooks, memorabilia and yearbooks to teach me more about the rich Iowa Hawkeye traditions and history.  I’ve never met anyone as passionate about anything as Mark is about helping and teaching people about Hawkeyes.

In addition, Mark has been a great friend.  For the first two years of painting Hawkeye pieces, no one was interested in representing or showing my artwork.  Mark was always there cheering me on and encouraging me with an occasional studio visit.  I will be forever grateful to Mark for the words of encouragement and historical education.

See Mark describe one of Jeff’s paintings on the legendary Iowa Hawkeye TV Show, The Sports Opinion hosted by Dirk Keller.
